Chief Gadao of Inalahan is the legendary strongest chief of Guam, following an epic battle with Chief Malagua'i who came to Inalahan by canoe to challenge Gadao. The two chiefs each paddled in opposite directions in one canoe with such strength that it broke in two pieces. Gadao's canoe bow cleaved inland, creating As Misa River, while Malagua'i's half shot out to sea. Some say he was lost while other stories say he landed in Tinian where he founded the Taga clan. Gadao continued to perform legendary feats of strength, such as killing a shark single-handedly and swimming around Guam 3 times. Gadao's statue can be seen at the bayside north entrance to Inalahan.
